We started off just wondering around the street fair they had set up. There were some really neat vendors selling wood crafts, toys and games, photographers with some beautiful work, and a bunch of knitted goods too! After admiring all the awesome handmade goods, we got back to the main stage just in time to watch the mashed potato eating contest! We both popped our food-eating-contest-cherries that day, and boy was it gooood! These kids had some serious strategies for eating mashed potatoes. We saw everything from scooping handfuls into mouths to eating daintily with the provided plastic spoon and everything in between. The fastest time was by a teenager (of course), and he did it in 15 seconds!! SHOCKING! His strategy was to dilute the potatoes with water as he shoved them in his mouth...messy but highly effective, apparently. Here are some of the competitors.
After the excitement of the mashed potato eating contest was done, we went down a little alley where they were handing out free potatoes! A man in a vest handed us a plastic bag and said, "have at it", so we had and had. Brad scrambled around on the ground grabbing fresh potatoes, while Jenni documented for the blog :) We ended up with a nice bag of potatoes, which Jenni plans to use to make some delicious roasties!

All of that potato grabbing made us hungry for a snack, so we headed over to the food court. It was here where we decided to try Lefse. It is a traditional Norwegian flat bread....pretty much a tortilla type deal, but instead of being stuffed with rice and beans, it's got sugar and cinnamon! It was a little weird really, but good all the same!

So that was Potato Days...we were a little disappointed that we missed the mashed potato wrestling, but plan on heading back next year to see us some potato wrestling action!
